Campfire songs, cowboy poetry and Dutch oven cooking are all part what make the Nine Mile Ranch bunk ‘n breakfast unique. Situated in the mouth of historic Nine Mile Canyon, “the ranch is a perfect place to get away from the busy world,” explained owner Myrna Mead.
Open year round, the ranch offers lodging, campsites, a camping supply store and entertainment. Eighteen campground sites and bathrooms with showers along with rooms in the bed & breakfast give the ranch versatile ways to serve any guest’s needs. There is even an Indian teepee that guests can rent to sleep in.
There is a pavilion for dances and horse rides for experienced horsemen and amateurs alike. A visitor can choose to go on an over-night trail ride or to take a short ride around the ranch.
“We created the ranch as a home base for people coming to see the Indian art in the canyon. They can come eat, clean up and stay after a day of hiking in the dusty canyon. It is also a great place for family reunions,” continued Mead.
Myrna and her husband Ben have been running the ranch for 6 years. Mead explained the ranch’s beginnings. “Since we have been married it was our dream to open a ranch for troubled youth. We didn’t get it done when we were younger. So, when we got older we decided that we’d better follow our dreams. But, we thought it would be better to run a guest ranch and let parents and grandparents come and bring their children for a fun time.”
Every morning Myrna and Ben are up early cooking breakfast for their guests and preparing for the all-you-can-eat Dutch oven dinners.

The Blue Cut RV Park is located in the center of the county, between Price and Helper in Carbonville. The park is located on a level site adjacent to the Price river. Steep cliffs are located to the east, providing a nice backdrop. The park has many mature trees that provide shade in the summertime. Located a short distance from U.S. Highway 6, the park is easily accessible for any size RV. We have full hook-ups with water, sewer, and power. There are both 30 and 50 Amp hookups. We have several pull-through spaces for larger RVs. There is a large dumpster for garbage, and a laundry facility. Many of our visitors are repeat customers who enjoyed the scenic location. We have an on-site manager who can assist you, and you are welcome to call me any time. Our RV park is personable, scenic, and convenient, making it a good value. We typically have an annual barbecue in the later summer months. Come visit, and enjoy your stay at the Blue Cut RV Park!”
We came to Helper in 2012 for the Helper Arts & Music Festival and fell in love with the town. Back then Helper didn’t have much going on outside the festival and the light parade in the winter, but we saw so much potential. The historic downtown buildings are set against the backdrop of mountains, called book cliffs, under the sentry of Balance Rock.
The festival that brought us here started in 1995 when several artists who had purchased buildings on Main Street to use as studios and for workshops came up with the idea. In vacant buildings they created phantom galleries where art was displayed to liven up the town. As the years passed, some of the artists who came for workshops stayed. The art community is strong and growing in Helper. 2019 will be the 25th anniversary of the Helper Arts, Music & Film Festival(film started in 2016). The plans are already under way to make the 25th festival a spectacular event so book your spot now!
There were other visits to Helper. We came for the Christmas Light Parade (Helper is Utah’s official Christmas town), for a craft fair in the park, for a photography class, and of course the yearly festival. We wanted to learn more about the town and the people who live here.
After the many trips we decided Helper needed an RV park. The existing lodging situation wasn’t ideal for visitors wishing to take advantage of the happenings in Helper or area attractions. We wanted a place to stay, close to town, with amenities. While we have a travel trailer, we were aware there wasn’t a place with the amenities we wanted and space for larger rigs with pullouts, tow vehicles and ATV’s in all of Carbon County.
Close to beautiful Scofield Reservoir in the Manti-La Sal Mountains. Great place to camp during Scofield Pleasant Valley Days held each 4th of July.
Snack & Pack Convenience Store is located in Scofield Utah at an elevation of 7800 ft. We can accommodate most of your fishing and hunting needs with sporting goods, gasoline, fast food, cold drinks, ice, etc.
Lazy Anchor Campground is located across the street. Check in for the campground is located at the store. Amenities include restrooms and showers, laundry room. Full hook-ups are available (water, sewer, power includes 20, 30, and 50 Amp hookups) ATVs are welcome, ATV access to Manti-Lasal National Forest and Skyline Drive is possible right from the campground.
