Memorial Day – Flags for Veterans and Ceremonies

May 23 @ 12:00 pm - May 27 @ 3:00 pm

Memorial Day. Submitted by: The American Legion, Post 3, Price
We need your help. Veterans, members of the American Legion Post 3 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2379, both of Price, will place over 1,500 American flags at the gravesites of all veterans so that no veteran’s service to this nation is forgotten.
The Posts will begin placing flags at 12:00noon, Thursday, May 23rd, in the Price City Cemetery; we will continue Friday at 8:00am until finished. With your assistance, this mission can be accomplished at cemeteries in Helper, Price Cliffview, Wellington, East Carbon and Sunnyside. Unfortunately, there are far more veterans who’ve passed than those alive, willing and physically able to complete this honorable task. Please consider joining us, even if only to place a flag on your loved one’s gravesite.
On Monday, May 27th, the public is invited to attend Memorial Day ceremonies conducted by the members of the American Legion and VFW. Services will begin at 9:00am at Mt. View cemetery in Helper; 10:00am Price City cemetery; 11:00am Cliffview cemetery in Price; 12:00pm noon in Wellington; 1:30pm in East Carbon and 2:00pm at Sunnyside cemeteries.
All Armed Forces service members and veterans are invited to participate. Please meet with the Honor Guard 10 minutes prior to each service and consider wearing your respective service or veteran organization uniforms.
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was set aside to honor the nation’s Civil War dead by “decorating” their graves. First observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers – of both sides; at Arlington National Cemetery, 5,000 participants decorated the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery. Following the Great War, World War I, Memorial Day included all service members killed in war. Today, customarily, Memorial Day remembers all service members who died in combat, while serving, or since.
Please contact the American Legion Post 3 at 435.630.8474 if you’d like to help or have questions.
